Hi guys, I hope you’re doing good as always. As you know, I get the ideas for my content by talking to people, especially clients and other small business owners.
Please share this post if you like and if it has helped you. And leave a comment below. Thanks in advance.
I’m going to paraphrase something a few people said to me. It goes like this, “People say I should have a blog for my business, why should I? What am I going to blog about?”
In my mind, I was like “Uhn…about you blog about your business?”. So this is what I asked one of them: How much traffic does your website get daily?
He didn’t know and I would never judge because I’m in this business to help people like this out with their business and online marketing, SEO, etc.
In this post, I will be explaining Why Your Business Must Have A Blog. This is not a “should”, it’s a “must” if you want to keep up with your competitor. Because the fact is if you don’t have one and the other guy does, you are keeping up.
I have a silly question for this post too and I always like you guys’ answers: Can you cry underwater?
My advice for business owners who cannot manage blogs is to hire someone to create content and keep up with the blog. Some people think blogs are outdated and no longer that important and I used to think the same way until I took a step back and saw the bigger picture.
I started my own business. I built my website, ordered business cards, all the works. After then, I barely got any traffic, maybe one or two people daily. I decided to start a blog for all the reasons I will be talking about.
So let me dive into why your business must have a blog in today’s world:
CONNECTING WITH CUSTOMERS
Having a blog for your business is one very easy way to connect with your customers. With a blog, you can share things about your business with them. A blog can help create a connection with customers and encourage responses/feedback that can be important and used to improve your business. Note, blogging about things that do not relate to your business industry is not what you should be blogging about.
I like technology and computers. I am a Programmer and Ethical Hacker in training but blogging about that on here (my Social Media Marketing blog). I do plan to start a blog about that soon, so watch out.
With a blog, you can talk about latest industry trends, other things like customer care and important that can help them. Your blog gives you your own voice about your industry. Like most things, I talk about on my blog are my opinion and you guys seem to love it. Thank you.
A blog encourages discussion in the comment section and this can highly impact your online reputation. On my Instagram where I post mostly about my tech life, I received multiple messages from newbies trying to get into programming and I am always happy to help.
Here are four unique ways to connect with your customers:
- Spotlight customer stories on your blog.
- Throw a customer appreciation event.
- Take customers behind the scenes.
- Start a loyalty program.
To read more about the four points above, follow the link this article written by Larry Alton.
Another important way to connect using your blog is by storytelling. This does not only apply to Americans but there is a famous quote that says, “America loves a good story.” This is common amongst salesmen and marketers. It also works when you are “marketing” your business.
With storytelling, you humanize your content. I believe you should share your personal stories, especially ones that led you to start your business.
Four pillars of a great story: People, Places, Purpose, and Plot. Read about using storytelling to connect with your customers here. This post was written by Devin Bramhall.
If you’re shooting for connecting, you also need to make sure that you are creating valuable content. Some tips for creating valuable content are:
- Starting with your customer.
- Focus deeper.
- Not everyone likes reading. Consider creating podcasts or videos.
- Use numbered lists.
- Show who you are.
- Brainstorm with your team if you have one.
When creating valuable content, consider the FRUAS concept, the letters stand for: Findable, Readable, Understandable, Actionable, and Shareable.
SENDING YOUR SEO TO MARS
If you don’t quite understand the sub-title, “Sending your SEO to Mars”, it means having a blog increases your Search Engine rankings. Search engines, especially Google and Yahoo love blog with rich content. It’s a known fact that websites with blogs rank higher than those without a blog.
Since I started blogging about a month ago, my rankings have gone up higher than it would have without a blog.
One of the many ways to use blogging as a way to boost SEO is with the use of backlinks. I have some advice about backlinks:
- Make sure you are linking to a credible website.
- Do not use too many backlinks in a single post.
- If you paid for links, remember to use the no-follow tag so search engines don’t index it else you get bitten.
- Link to sites that are similar to your blog niche.
The first, because if say a website you link to is penalized for some Black Hat SEO, you also get penalized because of the link between both sites. The second tip, because “Wu Ju Bi Fan” which is Chinese for “Too much of good stuff is bad stuff.” The third one, I don’t know because I have never paid for links and with what I preach, I most likely will never. Lastly, the fourth, well simple, what happens when a Star Trek fans think they can explain Star Wars?
Blogging gives you the best chance of using your “keywords”. Why does this matter? One of the most important factors of SEO is keywords.
Remember “Too much of good stuff is bad stuff.”
Be sure to use unique keywords that people are most likely to search for in relation to your niche. Try to spread it reasonable across your site and post.
Below are a number of tools that you can use to find keywords:
- Google Keyword Planner.
- Google Trends.
- SEMrush. I realized just to spell this as SEMRush…lol.
A very big reason why some sites rank so high with SEO is that their site is not static. It’s not just a business website that is only updated once a year or so.
Blogs provide fresh, updated content. I would say relevant but that part is up to you. It’s not like opening a savings account, it should not be something you create and abandon for a long time.
I talked about backlinking to other sites. If you have relevant content, a blog allows lets other people link to your site.’
EASY TO CREATE
It is super easy to create a blog. I don’t mean that anyone who does not know how to is not, you know, smart.
I understand that basically, you run a business, you have clients to deal with, employees, paperwork… all that stuff. So you do not have the time to learn how to and make one.
Hire someone who knows what they’re doing. For example, I offer blog creation services. Like right now, I’m trying out many WordPress themes to create blogs to see those that work well for different purposes. Hopefully, I will do some Squarespace but it’s not what I would recommend for a blog.
I just created my Blog Creation Package which is all about starting a blog or adding a blog to your existing website.
This section is short but I just wanted you to know that it’s easy to learn how to make your own blog at home.

INCREASE IN TRAFFIC
If you don’t have a blog or you do not share content like videos, images, etc. Basically, if your website is a static site, people that visit just come to do whatever you want them to do on there and they leave.
And it is not guaranteed that they will do what you want them to because if you do not have something valuable or a good lead generation system, they just leave in seconds.
Having a blog increases traffic if you are promoting your blog. You can’t just build it and sit hoping someone will find you by some miracle. The best way in my opinion to promote your blog is with the use of social media.
If you are going to utilize social media marketing, I think you should read my How To Get Started with Social Media Marketing For Your Business. Still read that if you will be hiring someone to do it for you because you need the basic idea of what someone else will be doing for you.
Every traffic to your blog is a potential lead. Several times I have seen when someone clicks a post link on my Facebook and they spend some minutes reading my post if they like it, the next thing they do is visit my other posts and other pages and some will sign up to receive my newsletters.
I most likely will be doing a post for this that will be more detailed a focused on traffic, so if you will be interested in that, leave a comment. Here are some tactics to follow to increase your blog traffic are:
- Target people likely to share your post. This is your target audience. For example, I target small businesses, bloggers, entrepreneurs, etc.
- Join groups/communities relating to what you do.
- Make your posts easy to read.
- Read 4 Important Things For New Bloggers.
- Use social media to promote your blog and content.
- Get started on SEO.
- Guest blog on other sites in your niche.
- Respond to every comment you receive. Yes, every single one. If you can afford it, hire a social media manager to do this.
- Ask questions.
- Post consistently and do not give up.
“It’s better to fail at it than to not try at all, and the only way to fail is to stop trying.”
COST EFFECTIVE MARKETING
Understand that your blog will not grow overnight, but neither does a flower. It takes time and effort. When blogging, you have to be educated and know the subject matter. That’s one of the parts of creating valuable content.
Having a blog is a very cheap method of promoting yourself if you consider how much a 30-second TV ad costs. The $1000 you might spend paying someone to build you a blog is cheaper than $250k for 30 seconds.
I do not think TV ads really work and I will tell you why I say so. The 60 seconds in between sports matches, tv shows, etc that come up with ads is the time I use to go to the bathroom. Hence, I do not see the ads.
And some of you are reading this now, realizing that you also do the same thing. So that’s my point.
Using blogs, if done correctly, can be one of the biggest ways you promote your business. But it is a bad idea to use a blog just for promotions.
What would you think if all I did was advertise my online marketing business and not provide helpful content and resources?
Blogs are something you own if it is self-hosted. By self-hosted, I mean it ends in a .com, .org, etc and not .wordpress.com or .blogspot.com.
When you post on social media, they may choose to remove your post or delete your account. Yes they can, they own it. But when you have a blog, it’s yours, you call the shots.
This marks the end of the end of this post. I hope it has helped you in any positive way and leads you to start your own business blog if you don’t have one at the time of reading this.
Please if you enjoyed reading this, share this and comment. I promise it won’t take up much of your time.
If you have any questions, as usual, comment and you can also message me via social media, Facebook and Instagram mostly.
